Wishful Thinking
I am a day dreamer. Always have been. I know I’m having a rough time when I’m day dreaming more than usual. It’s an escape for me. It’s all part of wishful thinking – when I imagine something happening so I don’t have to do it in real life. I imagine all the good things, sometimes grandiose things, that could be my life. Nowadays, within a few days of this type of escapism a little voice tells me: reality check time. What are you doing today to achieve your dreams? Or are you just dreaming?
Wishful thinking can be a real trap. You live in your head instead of the real world. You can feel happy for a while because this is some future place where you will soon magically be. It’s a heck of a lot easier than actually taking the steps needed to achieve something!
I would never say not to dream – imagining good things can be a positive motivator. I’m just saying that in my case, I sometimes let these day dreams be a substitute for real action and real change. Time to wake up.
