Smart People Do Dumb Things

Face it – doesn’t matter how smart you are, you’re only human, and that means sometimes you will do dumb things.  In fact, being really smart can sometimes make you fail to see when you are doing dumb things. You are just too smart for that. Ha!

I do dumb things. Later I think, boy that was dumb. At the time I usually have no clue I’m doing something dumb – or I might, but I’m caught up in it so I “keep myself in the dark.”

This weekend I was at the dog park again and a lady came in with her two young boys and boxes of food. I said, “Is that food?” as I watched hordes of dogs surround them.  “Yes – we are waiting for a bench.”  I looked at her a moment then said, “Good luck with that.”

Apparently eating giant hamburgers while surrounded by dozens of loose dogs seemed like a good idea to her.  When her lunch ended up in the dirt, she actually acted like she couldn’t believe it, “So much for my lunch.” I thought – wow this really reminds  me of times I have done something with no thought for the potential consequences then acted all surprised when the consequences anyone would expect actually occurred.  Sound familiar to anyone?

As the dog I brought to the park tried to scarf up the meal the dogs had knocked out of her hands I thought – well, she learned not to bring food to the dog park.  I personally wouldn’t need to test that in the real world to know it wouldn’t work – but there are plenty of others ways I test things that probably didn’t really need testing.
