Sitting on the Pity Pot


We all know what it feels like: woe is me, everything always happens to me, why me?!!

Sometimes we forget what it looks like to other people. Bleck.

I remember a writing teacher once saying, “The one thing you never want your hero to do is wallow in self-pity.” Why? Because self-pity is annoying. Who wants to listen to someone whine and complain that everything is someone else’s fault?

One of the fastest ways to feel better in recovery is to swear off self-pity. You’d be amazed at how much brighter life is when you aren’t feeling put upon and recognize your responsibility for your own destiny and happiness.
