Why 90 Meetings in 90 Days?

Recently someone asked me about why 90 meetings in 90 days is so emphasized for newcomers. They thought it was too much and that they couldn’t “fit it in” every day.  I asked her how much time she spent each day drinking. She somewhat sheepishly answered, “Like from when I got home from work until I went to bed.”

We spend a lot of time talking ourselves out of things that are good for us, forgetting how much time and energy we spent doing things that were really and truly bad for us.

If you could make time to drink away a few hours of every day of your life, you can make time for a meeting. It’s especially important those first 90 days because many studies have shown that it takes 90 days before new habits start to become natural to us. And frankly, the most natural state for an alcoholic is drinking, so you really need to commit to the new habit of not drinking.

  1. I did over 90 meetings my first 90 days, just didn’t want
to give myself any opportunity to get in trouble.
I see a lot of young newcomers who really resist this, they
think it is overkill. It really baffles me because their lives
are a total mess and going to meetings is the least of their
    hassles
