Helping Set Up at Meetings

Why is it important to volunteer to set up meeting chairs, make coffee, or clean up after a meeting? One of the things that happens to us when we are actively drinking or using is that we become very isolated. We also become very self-centered. By offering to do something to benefit others, we become part of community, rather than remaining isolated our old island of misery.

Have you ever noticed that when you are feeling down or overwhelmed, if you bump into a friend who has bigger problems and you listen, sympathize, and offer a lending hand, you somehow feel a little better? By taking the focus off yourself and putting it on others, you pull yourself out of the past perpetual cycle of feeling sorry for yourself.
